Marianne Hurum

(English version below)

English version

MESNASAGA DELICIOSA

Marianne Hurums exhibition MESNASAGA DELICIOSA consists of three new paintings and a sculpture especially made for Elephant Kunsthall’s sculpture park. The paintings are made by wide strokes and lots of water, in aquarelle, gouache and acrylic on cotton canvas.

The painting DELICIOSA TO (170x190cm) is built up by three layers of broad, gestural strokes of thin light colored paint in red, yellow and blue tones. The strokes constitute a large and half figurative, doodle-like composition. The canvas was dyed on beforehand to create a lucid light green base color. The two other paintings are of darker shades and tones, composed by numerous layers of thin paint with lots of water. In NATTBORD DELICIOSA (80x110cm), Hurum removed the top layers of aquarelle with water and thin brushes till a thorn-like dark red and blue composition appeared and took shape. ORIENTERING DELICIOSA (80x110cm) is a floating and lava-like composition in blue, white and green tones. A yellow, lemony and heraldry-like shape confidently lands in the white lava like a marker on a map.

The sculpture SVART OG ROSA DELICIOSA is the exhibition’s contribution to Elephant Kunsthall’s ever expanding sculpture park. This permanent installation consists of a 50x40x40cm welded triangular steel shape that is painted shiny black, a concrete pedestal and a climber rose. The steel shape functions as an espalier for the rose, and this organic composition will develop and change in the sculpture park of Elephant Kunsthall.

Marianne Hurum is interested in color and composition and in painting as attitude and as a sensitivity of the contemporary. Hurum’s interests are nourished by a.o. Giorgio De Chirico, Per Kirkeby and Philip Guston’s work, whose paintings she regards as close spiritual friends.

Hurum is exhibiting at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo alongside her exhibition at Elephant Kunsthall. Upcoming exhibitions and presentations include Stavanger Art Museum, Kunstnerforbundet (Oslo), Space 4235 (Genova, Italy), NADA Miami Beach (USA) and A Palazzo Gallery (Brescia, Italy). Previous exhibitions include the Astrup Fearnley Museum (Oslo), NoPlace (Oslo), Lothringer13_Laden (Munich), Kunsthall Oslo, Kulturhuset Stockholm and Golden Age (Chicago). Marianne Hurum is educated at Malmø Art Academy, Oslo National Academy of the Arts and University of Illinois UIC, Chicago.
